No, I haven't seen this one before. But it is indeed similar! Hard to tell what was the real inspiration, most likely a combination of things. I think the following tool was one of them. This is a fractal vise, the parts are positioned similarly to the circles in my previous animation.

i think originally future could just move rooms around and create basic obstacles. maybe some flippy modular panels a la portal. but it has been there a while and is VERY BORED and at this point everything on the floor has been remade as part of its giant hermitcrab junkbeast mimic body. the whole floor heaves and you are being gripped in the jaws of a fractal vise made of office furniture and repurposed electronics. like a dog holding an egg in its mouth

2. Correspondence- As Above, So Below. As Below, So Above. - The Kybalion

This great principle embodies the truth that the Universal Laws are applicable on every plane of existence, and every level of being, be it higher or lower, macro to micro, the laws ring true and never fail.

A simple way to understand this, is to understand the kinship between the slender blade of grass, and the towering bamboo shoots. Think on how the raging swirling hurricane is akin to the serenity of a spiral galaxy, or the comparison of the human neural network and the very fabric of the Universe.

All of these examples show the correspondence of higher and lower levels on massive scales, yet those are only examples from the third dimension, imagine how this Law complexifies as it moves higher on the dimensional scale. As information passes between dimensions, it simplifies from higher to lower, some information being lost in translation in compensation for having lost a dimension. From lower to higher, information is added, as the expansion of dimension brings new complexity to the transitioning information.

There are two prime examples of this, the first is scientifically proven. If you take a glass cube and analyze it here in the third dimension, you will find all of it's edges, faces and angles are identical to each other, no matter from what perspective it is observed. So, how does one translate that information, of the 3d cube into the second dimension? One can shine a flashlight on it and analyze the shadow. If you do this, you will find the general shape of the cube is intact but the edges, faces and angles are no longer identical, no matter from what perspective the light is shone upon it or from where it is observed. In fact, the only way to equal the sides and angles, is to shine the light, straight on from one side, but this transforms the cube into it's lower dimensional form, the square. This is because in order for the cube's information to properly translate to a lower dimension, it must be simplified into a square. It follows then, that if the cube's information were to be translated into the fourth dimension, it would complexify into a tesseract, a uniquely fourth dimensional shape.

Another example is purely anecdotal, though it is a fairly repeatable anecdote amongst psychonauts. Have you ever had a person, or been a person trying to explain a deep psychedelic experience? Third dimensional descriptors can carry you a ways, but there are huge portions that are simply unlanguageable even to the most intrepid of literary minds. It is because one's consciousness is temporarily transcending dimensions and one simply cannot manage to bring back all of that complex information from a higher dimension, which has no place here in the lower. Only tiny shards and granules can cross over at a time. It's like trying to explain the grandness of a great river, with only a thimble of it's water.

All of that being said, the great Law of Correspondence illustrates that though the different dimensions and levels of dimensions vary in size, scope, perspective and complexity, they are all subject to the Universal Laws and all of the Laws manifest in some form or another on the various planes of existence. The Law also entails the truth that the events on the higher planes can and do affect the events on the lower, and vise versa.

Take heart in this knowledge, for it demonstrates that the understanding and mastery of the Universal Laws on this plane corresponds to the understanding and mastery of the Laws on the lower and higher planes, to some degree. The fractal is reflective of the whole, and vise versa. As Above, So Below.

It's the deadpan kind of answer that Drill doesn't like. He frowns as the strange robot tilts his head at him.

"Why do you make such a face? Surely you aren't in disbelief, doctor..."

Drill flinched and his frown deepened, "What the hell are you talking about?" He breaks eye contact. A mistake, by all regards, as he looks at Crane instead.

"Well, you made you, after all, right?"

Crane's face must mimic his, a sudden drawing in of horror and confusion. He snaps his head back to the redhead, only to see him across the room, sat back next to Vise. Those too-teal eyes tilted as he listens to whatever the bucktoothed jumbor had to say with bright, sparkling eyes.

Drill just stares, watching the exchange continue between jumbor and faux-jumbor. This was the first time he'd gotten a chance to sit down and talk with this... whatever it was. Other times had only been glances following the death of something or another. Or tales from the magnet jumbor about their most recent encounter.

As the Thing's fractal gaze flickered back to him, Drill caught himself hoping it would also be the last.
